Every ferry lane worth knowing
152 routes, 44 countries, 67 operators. Click a line on the map, search a port, or browse by country. Every route links straight to the operator's own booking page.
The routes
Pick a route on the map or in the list and the detail appears here.
Ferry routes by country
Every country with a route in the list. The number is how many routes touch it, arriving or departing.
The operators
Every company in the list, with a link to its own site. Prices, live timetables and availability always live there, never here.
What nobody tells you before your first crossing
Foot passengers can usually turn up. Vehicle space on island routes in August sells out months ahead, and the last spaces are always the dearest.
Vehicle crossings normally want you 45 to 90 minutes ahead, and the queue is at the dock, not the building with the coffee.
The vehicle deck is locked once the ship sails. Take medication, chargers, coats and the book with you before you leave it.
Long routes that sail three times a day in August may sail twice a week in January. Always check the month you are travelling, not today.
All three must be declared when booking and the rules differ by operator. Turning up with an undeclared dog is a story that ends at the port.
On long routes the cabin is not an extra, it is the thing that makes the crossing cheaper than flying plus a night's accommodation.
How this list is put together
Crossing times are typical door-to-door sailing times in normal conditions, not a schedule. Frequencies describe the busy season unless the route is marked seasonal. Operator links go to each company's own site, because that is the only place where a price and a departure time are ever current. If a route or a link is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed.
